Many people and researchers have questions about the accuracy of BMI. While there may be certain patients in whom BMI is less accurate, I have used this simple method for many years. As with weight, a one time reading or calculation is less important than the trend. I have read criticism of BMI that it does not account for people who are very muscular. It does not, but I have personally found that few people have that issue. My weight, BMI and body fat as measured by a body impedance analysis correlate well. So feel free to use the BMI to help record your progress.
