Cold And Flu Season: Keeping ‘Fighting Fit’

In a recent Learning Center post, I focused on some of the benefits of green tea, and had every intention of elaborating on its health aspects in my followup article.

But as life has it, I was sidelined by something so many of us deal with, often out of the blue. So instead of my followup green tea piece, this article will hopefully help you get a leg up on what’s coming our way: The cold and flu season.

Last Sunday, I was lucky enough to spend some time swimming with a great-nephew and three great-nieces. We all had a very nice time.

By Tuesday, however, I was reminded that 7- to 10-year-olds are walking Petri dishes of infection! I have had the worst cold, possibly influenza actually, over the last 10 days than I have had in years.

I know becoming ill wasn’t just due to the recent exposure. As mentioned in another recent article on how I had fallen off track, I had stopped taking my supplements and working out, and began to eat badly. In short, I stopped listening to my own recommendations. I am fully convinced that my recent poor care for my health is what made this cold/flu so extreme.

I have previously written on the benefits of OrthoMune, among supplements supporting the immune system, which is our body’s best defensive system. This nutraceutical includes N-acetyl-L-cysteine, quercetin, zinc, and vitamins C and D — all very important supplements for strong immunity. I only recently restarted taking OrthoMune and am finally turning the corner from the worst cold/flu I have had since before the pandemic. I was able to avoid COVID-19 even though my medical clinic was open for regular hours all through the pandemic. I attribute this at least partially to how OrthoMune helped improve my immune response.

Many people are in the habit of adding extra vitamin C to their regimen in the fall and winter, at the start of school or before a trip, in order to help their immunity. Adding an immune powerhouse such as OrthoMune, especially if you have lots of exposure to other people and children, can help keep you “fighting fit” throughout the cold and flu season.

My recent exposure has also raised more questions for me about what children carry and what they are exposed to. Don’t keep them isolated — our immune systems need the natural exposure to keep our response in shape. If you have children, whether they are starting daycare or going to university, Functional Medicine 411 carries several supplements that help maintain health.

To make it easy for you to find the supplements you need to optimize your health this cold and flu season, we have a whole Immune Health product page on our website — just click on that hyperlink and get in touch with any questions.

I, for one, will not be going without OrthoMune for my foreseeable future!
